Day 69 – Maha Sarakham to Khon Kaen
Today was a rainy day, but we had a fairly easy ride. The last 10kms with the wind behind us blew us straight into town, which was great. We visited the Tourism office and then found a decent hotel. I wish I could write something interesting, but there is not much to say about this place. We dropped our clothes at the laundry and then had Natt’s computer checked out at a local shop because it was wigging out a bit. I ate at McDonalds.
We visited the cinema and watched a couple of movies, as this is the first town in 42 provinces to have a cinema (maybe excluding Phuket) in English. I can’t believe we had to come all the way to the middle of Isan to watch movies in English that are not dubbed.
That’s it, we ate, we slept, we watched another movie on our day off, we did some email, we posted 2 and a half kilograms back to Bangkok. That was mostly stuff we had collected along our trip as well as a few things we have not used since we started.
That was about it. It was a couple days off with nothing on the agenda except relaxing. Tomorrow, we head 300kms towards Bueng Kan, the newest province in Thailand. We will skip Udon Thani, as first planned, and visit it on the way back. We’re going North-North East with a tailwind for 3 days, or maybe 2, if I can trick Natt into doing it.
