Day 50 – Province 29… Sa Kaew
Today was a painless day when compared to yesterday. We rode just under 90kms and my ass felt much better and the distance was easy. Hills were limited on today’s ride but the sun, and its heat, did come out.
I purchased some wine, cheese, and crackers then ate them all. It was not an very amazing day and I don’t have much to talk about, the roads were straight, the kilometres easy, and traffic got progressively worse as the day wore on.
We listened to music for the second half of the day and we didn’t stop very often. I guess that during most of the ride Natt and I were thinking about a problem she is having with Your Thai Guide currently and how best to deal with it. Owning a small business is challenging and dealing with people who don’t show common courtesies is a real pain in the ass.
Personally, I would like to set them on fire and watch them burn, but apparently that’s not acceptable. So I will have to defer to the better judgment of Natt, it is after all her business.
One highlight of the day’s ride, for me at least, was watching as a grumpy looking lady was talking to Natt as she rode beside us on her scooter. I had the distinct feeling she was telling Natt of something we had done wrong or that she certainly didn’t approve of. She had a scowl on her face the whole time that she was speaking to Natt.
After the woman rode off I was ready for Natt to tell me some weird story about how the lady had told her that the way she rides a bicycle is not very lady-like or something similar, but actually I had misread the whole thing. The lady was actually telling Natt she had seen us on Cable TV and knew that we were cycling through every province in Thailand on our honeymoon. COOL HUH 🙂
Anyway, a lot can be lost with language. If you ever get the chance you should watch the movie LOST IN TRANSLATION to get a feeling of what it is like to live in a world where you only understand snippets of the stories happening around you. I need to learn Thai.
